This was more or less a last minute decision for me. With Bessie Bajaj off the road (she's all stripped down & ready for a respray) I was going to have to use Charlie's silver PX125 Dexy. Thanks to Digger & Andy for getting the scooter road worthy in time for the rally.
Digger & Ste came round for me on Saturday morning, late as usual. I hadn't done a rally on a Vespa for a few years. I think the last time was back in the early 90s when me & Digger went to Bridlington on my old PX180.
Set off and made good time. It's the first time that I'd rode Charlie's scoot any great distance and I wasn't sure how well it would cope. Needn't of worried though as it was spot on and good for 65mph. The journey was really nice, the rain stayed off, loved going across the Humber bridge on the scoot even if it cost me £1.20, only problem was all down to me daydreaming and pulling out on a car at a roundabout!
Got to Cleethorpes in good time and then went to look for Tetley's house. Finally found it but it was miles away from anywhere! Tetley wasn't even in so we headed off to the campsite just as the heavens opened! Got wet putting the tents up, well, I got wet watching Ste & Digger put the tents up. After a quick change we hit the town.
First pub we landed in was called The Fiddler and at £1.79 a pint of Strongbow and the same for Carling I think it was us that were fiddling the pub! A few pints later and it was time for a kebab and then a pub crawl. On the way bumpt into the Hartlepool lot - Kev, Colin, Garry and also an old Pressure Drop DJ Golden Eye. Also met Beerpigs Stacey & Shelle, Daz & Mary and Big Al from Leeds.
After a few pubs it was back to The Fiddler for the tribute band The Jam'd. The band weren't too hot but we were singing along after 10 pints or so and I have video footage of Digger trying to sing 'Ghosts'! A few more beers then it was time for more food. The heavens had opened again but some kind lass gave me a brolly which I sold on once we made it to the curry house. After the curry it was time for a few more beers before heading back to the campsite.
Next morning I was feeling a bit rough having not packed a sleeping bag but I looked 100 times better than Digger who was really hungover. So hungover that he couldn't even be bothered to pack up his tent and ended up shotting it on the rubbish pile. Digger was soon back at the rubbish tip though when he realised that his phone was still inside the tent! Ste also binned the ex-army tent we used but that had seen better days.
A fry up in town and then back home. The journey back took a lot longer than going but all in all it was a great weekend. Was suffering at work on Monday though. I must remember to pack a sleeping bag next time I go camping!
