Another Soul singer joins the great gig in the sky. I remember the first time I heard Fontella Bass, it was in the mid 80's and I had just picked up a double album called 'Purple Hearts From Pastures Gone'. I think bought the album just because of the front cover which was a 60's photo of Mods on scooters. Anyway, the album did have some good music on like Geno Washington, The kinks, Jimmy James, Tony Clarke, Billy Stewart & Sugar Pie Desanto. The album also included 3 tracks by Fontella Bass - 'Don't Mess Up A Good Thing' (Fontella Bass & Bobby McClure), 'Rescue Me' and 'Recovery'. To me 'Rescue me' was by far the best track on the album and I played it over & over again. These days my favourite Fontella Bass track is 'I Surrender' which I still include when I do a Soul DJ set. R.I.P Fontella Bass
